Review: Halo 5 Guardians

My journey catching up on Halo is complete. At the time of post, Halo Infinite is out and I’m sure that’s what I’m playing but let's find out if Halo 5 kept me interested and excited.

Halo 5 ended on such a high note for me. This was hands down my favorite Halo. From the story to the mechanics this was the height of the series for me. As someone who had no nostalgia for Halo, I recognize this game is how a series should evolve. The movement got better, the enemy design got better, the map design got better, and the gunplay got better. Everything found a way to improve and evolve.

Again, I have no nostalgia for the Halo so I found this story to be great. Master Chief is a beloved character but he shares the spotlight in this game with Spartan Locke. You play as both Locke and Chief throughout the game. Chief is on the hunt for Cortana and Locke is on the hunt for Chief.

The Prometheans are back along with their great arsenal of weapons. The small issues I had with them in Halo 4 have been addressed and it made all the combat sequences extremely fun to play.

The map design here is the best it's been. There are no maps that seem to be confusing just to get you lost. They all feel well thought out and were always easy to navigate, especially with an excellent waypoint system.

Listen, Halo Infinite is out now, this game is great, let's move to the verdict so we can all get back to playing infinite.

I said the same thing for Halo 4 but now with Halo 5, I will say it again. This is the best numbered Halo game in the series. The game being split between Chief and Locke works and the back and forth was entertaining. The combat is always fun and the map design is finally not evil. Playing this game made me extremely hyped to play Infinite.

Final Score 9/10
